Henri Matisse (1869-1954)
Vintage original travel poster promoting the delights of the south of France for travellers and tourists.
In the immediate post war period the French Government worked hard to encourage domestic tourism and to encourage residents of Paris and other regions in the north of France to travel to the south bringing a much needed boost to the hotels and tourist industry along the Mediterranean coast. As a part of this effort, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall were commissioned by the Government to design posters to promote the south of France.
