First edition. Folio, pp 174. Illustrated throughout with photographs. Bound in blue cloth covered hard boards over grey cloth spine, gilt lettering to upper board and spine. A company history of John Swire & Sons’ leading dockyard and ship repairing operations. The first dock and slipway was built in 1900 the near the company’s Taikoo Sugar Refinery on the north shore of Hong Kong island. The book is liberally illustrated throughout with images of ships, dockyards and workshops. In Near Fine condition, clean and unmarked. Laid in is a photocopy extract, an article titled “Taikoo Dockyard, Hong Kong” by Albert Griffin, extracted from the Minutes of the Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineering, Vol 183, January 1911.
