Wagel wrote this book in the aftermath of the 1911 revolution and establishment of the Chinese Republic to survey the economic and finance condition is China and how the new government was performing in terms of trade, finance and the economy generally. Wagel was an Indian émigré to Shanghai , for five years edited the finance pages of the North-China Daily News, writing several books on currency, finance and the economy in China and later moved to the USA where he died in 1940.

The book is bright and clean, very light browning to end-papers and edges only, cloth creased on the spine, grades VG+ condition. Laid in is a flyer promoting forthcoming book by Wagel, ‘Financial Reform in China ’. Scarce book.
