Andamin Afghanistan (2008)
Matthieu Paley
After two weeks travel along the frozen Wakhan river, which is the only way to access the High Pamir in winter, one finds this view from Andamin towards the settlement of Mulk Ali, the heart of the High Pamir in Afghanistan. Beyond the hills in the distance is the Chinese border. The Afghan Kyrgyz live all year round on this barren plateau at an altitude of 4200 metres.
Matthieu Paley has travelled all over the world on assignment for National Geographic magazine. Focusing his efforts on regions that are misrepresented, he is especially committed to issues relating to diminishing cultures and to the environment.
The recipient of numerous awards, Matthieu has published several books of his work and his fine art images have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide.
