The Orient is Hong Kong - Fly there by Cathay Pacific (1961)
Dong Kingman (1911-2000)
One of four posters commissioned by the HKTA from renowned Chinese American artist Dong Kingman. Kingman lived in Hong Kong as a child before emigrating to California but he maintained close ties with the city for the rest of his long life.
This poster has a scene looking towards Hong Kong island from Kowloon. Kingman's very distinctive style of water-colouring, which he developed through training in both traditional Chinese and Western painting, comes through strongly in this poster.
Perhaps most interestingly is the Cathay Pacific overprint at the bottom of this poster. This is the first time we have seen a Cathay Pacific Dong Kingman poster. It is an unrecorded poster, and extremely scarce.
