[BOXER REBELLION] In Memoriam (1901)
Walter Ewen Townsend
A collection of extracts from letters written by Townsend during the Boxer Rebellion. Townsend was at the British Legation in Peking, training to be an interpreter and survived the siege with two bullet wounds, but died of typhoid while recuperating in Yokohama at the age of 21. Tipped in to the front paste down is a letter from Townsend to “Mrs Brunker,†dated 9th June 1899. There is also an inscription to Mrs Brunker to the f.f.e.p. by Mary A. Townsend, the author’s mother, and a further letter tipped in to the rear. A scarce and interesting account from the Boxer Rebellion.
