In original dust jacket. Chip to dust jacket spine head, missing the "H" in "Hong Kong", as well as two more chips to front panel top edge. General rubbing and wear to dust jacket edges with some tanning to spine. The book itself is lightly rubbed to corners and spine ends, otherwise lovely, clean and bright. A Near Fine copy in a Very Good- but still presentable dust jacket.

 

Illustrated with black and white photographs by the author and lithographic colour illustrations by F. Schiff. Thorbecke, née Ellen Catleen, German photojournalist and wife of Dutch ambassador, W.J.R. Thorbecke, worked in China during the 1930’s. Friedrich Schiff (1908-1968), Austrian caricaturist, moved to Shanghai in 1929 and is renowned for his amusing sketches of life in China.  A charming introductory book on Hong Kong. Scarce.
