Impermanence

Norman de Brackinghe has lived in Hong Kong since 1976. He has a background of many years in the graphic arts industry, is a watercolourist of the traditional English school of landscape painting and is a keen student of abstract art movements. His photography reflects the abstract expressionism of the painters he admires: de Staal, Rothko, Stella, Calder, Rauschenberg and others. Norman has held numerous solo exhibitions of his photography in Hong Kong and the UK and has joined many joint exhibitions throughout East Asia. His photographs are widely collected in Hong Kong and overseas.

Out of Time

Inspired by the work of Robert Frank, Marc Riboud, Walker Evans and Ansel Adams and drawing on the rich legacy of the Farm Security Administration documentary photographers, Robin Moyer set out on the road in the early 1970’s as a young man with all the enthusiasm of that era. With his VW van packed with cameras, from Leicas to wooden 8x10s, he travelled as far afield as Florida and the Dakotas, and from California to Alaska, seeking out the simple beauty of the countryside, the quirky reality of life in rural America and the classical iconography of nature-as-form. Moyer’s photographs demonstrate a masterful use of light in its various guises: intense, moody, soft, calming and powerful. It is this interplay of light and imagery which raises Moyer’s photographs above the ordinary and his choice of presenting them as platinum prints which creates something truly rare and special.

Yau Leung's Hong Kong

The exhibition presents a collection of photographs of Hong Kong by the famous local photographer, Yau Leung (1941-1997). Yau Leung is widely regarded as one of Hong Kong's most significant and accomplished documentary photographers. Born in Hong Kong, he devoted himself to photographing street scenes and the daily lives of people in Hong Kong. Drawing stylistically on the great master of documentary photo-journalism, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Yau Leung captured the very soul and essence of Hong Kong. His photographs, nearly all of which are monochrome, are masterpieces of composition and light. His images are compelling as they transport us back to the 1960s.

The Golden Age of Travelby

Hong Kong’s one and only specialist vintage poster gallery, Picture This, is pleased to present “The Golden Age of Travel”. This exhibition for sale is a celebration of scarce, important and beautiful travel posters dating from 1920 to 1970. Highlights of this exhibition include uncommon and early airline, shipping, and railroad posters issued by, among others, Philippine Air Lines, B.O.A.C, Pan Am, T.W.A., Messageries Maritimes, HAPAG and Japanese Government Railways. Far Eastern destinations covered include Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka, and Japan. The exhibition also features a selection of stunning vintage posters for popular Scottish, French, Egyptian and American destinations.

Open Horizons - Journeys Across Mongolia

Matthieu Paley was born in France, spent three years studying photography in New York and has led a peripatetic life for much of the past twelve years in the highest and remotest regions of Asia. He took the photographs for Open Horizons – Journeys across Mongolia during several extended trips to the country since 1998. He has also spent prolonged periods immersed in the land and culture and photographing other remote mountainous regions of Asia including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Paley is regarded as possibly the finest young explorer-photographer working today in Asia. His photographs have appeared in numerous publications including National Geographic Adventure, Time, Vanity Fair and Le Figaro. He has held exhibitions of his work in Hong Kong, New York and Paris and his first monograph Mongolie – La Route de L’Horizon was published in Paris in 2010.
